Elin Guinness

Elin Guinness is a third-year undergraduate Psychology student at the University of Southampton, completing her dissertation within the Social Neuroscience Lab.

Her research interests lie within cognitive and clinical neuroscience, particularly in understanding how trauma can alter brain function and contribute to lasting patterns in cognition, emotion, and behaviour. She is especially interested in PTSD and the effects of repeated or chronic trauma, including within military populations and women who have experienced domestic violence. Elin is also interested in how increasingly detailed understandings of the brain can inform the diagnosis and treatment of mental health conditions, while considering the limitations of current diagnostic systems and overly reductionist brain-disease models.

Outside of the lab, Elin enjoys going to the gym, sewing, reading, and listening to music.
